A factsheet on Federated Access to Digital Resources at Libraries has been developed by the LIBER Office, as a result of our work for the AARC Project.
It provides a basic explanation of federated identity management, the benefits for libraries and end-users, as well as recommendations for action and links for further reading. The conclusions of the interviews with decision-makers from several LIBER Member institutions that were carried out during December 2015 contributed to this work, as they allowed to identify several main issues related to federated access at libraries’ settings.
The document is structured in six parts:
- What is federated access management?
- How does it work?
- Why is this important for libraries?
- Which are the benefits for end-users?
- How can libraries take the lead?
- What can the AARC project do for you?
It is free to download, and has been formatted so that it can be easily printed and shared within libraries.
LIBER will continue work to improve the factsheet, and it will serve as a basis for a value proposition for federated identity management for libraries. As an in progress work, any comment or suggestion coming from your library experience would be more than welcome. Contact EU Projects Officer Gema Bueno de la Fuente gema.bueno@KB.nl.
